Sushi Tei is located in Gadong in Brunei at the shops just in front of the Centerpoint Hotel. This is by far one of the better Japanese food I have tried in Brunei. The other great thing is that they are giving 30% on their a-la-carte menu *yippie*

I ordered the mix sashimi tei special set, at only B$9.90, you get 3 yellow fin tuna, 2 sashimi salmon, 2 abura bozu, 1 tako, 2 hotate, 2 tamago, 1 rice, 1 miso soup 1 appetizer & 1 salad!!! Talk about value for money!

Other goodies here includes their grilled seafood served in a hot plate as well as the deep fried octopus.

This is a great place with nice cozy environment and provides great value too!

Recipe - Grill Lobsters

Daniel got some lobsters from Sg Renggit in Johor and I was asked over to do a cook out. Being a newbie to lobster and since the lobster is not live, I have decided to grill them instead.

So, I got my Tefal electric grill out from the storeroom and put it to good use. The lobsters need to be cut into half from the tail up and you will need a really big and sharp knife to do the job. I recommend chinese chopper if you have them. Wash up the lobster and get it ready to grill.

I placed a small pot on the grill and melt some butter then add in chopped chilies and coriander leaves. You may add in garlic if fancy. Then brush a light layer of the melted butter on the inner lobster’s flesh and put them face down on the grill. You may turn it to brush more butter as needed but I would not recommend to much or the butter taste will cover the lobsters.

Once cooked, serve the lobsters with more coriander leaves and squeeze lime juice on it just before eating.

Recipe - Simple Tom Yam

This is a really simple to do tom yam soup which can easily be made at home in a quick manner. You can take this soup on its own, go with rice or add in noodles if you fancy.

First things you need are:
1. 1-2 Bird chili (depends how spicy u can take it)
2. 1 clove of garlic
3. 1 lemon grass
4. 1 big red onion (sliced)
5. bunch of kaffir lime leaves
6. 1-2 big juicy lime (depends how sour you like it)

Crush all the above using a mortal and pestle to let out the fragrant (except for onion), then put them into a boiling stock. The stock should ideally be chicken or seafood stock, if you don’t have time for stock, stock cube are ok too.

Once they above are boiling again, add in vegetables of your choice, tomato, carrots, greens are good with this. Also put in any meat or seafood of your choice.

Once the meat or seafood is cook, its ready, simple right ;)

Found this small but nice Hainanese coffee shop in the town of Sungai Besar for breakfast. Its an old and but cozy old school style Hainan cafe. Every table greets its customers with packets of banana leaf wrapped nasi lemak and hard boiled eggs.

I was wondering if the nasi lemak will be the same the curry type in Sitiawan or Pangkor but it just the usual nasi lemak. Basically coconut milk rice with sambal on top but its still pretty good, spicy and sweet.

I ordered half boiled eggs, a piece of french toast and good old Hainan coffee. The eggs are normal but its done to perfection and you are given a cup to drink the eggs with. The toast comes out crispy served with butter and kaya, its so good that Mike & KC whom are supposed to just try 1 piece end up eating half of my toast! (>.<)

There are many other type of toast or steam bread available. A recommended place to stop for breakfast, simply love the old school Hainanese style :)

Its good to be back in Pangkor again, this is one of my favourite place to grew up as I spend many school holidays in this island… why you may ask? Mainly because I was a skinny little boy believe or not when I was a kid. So my mum sent me to my aunt in Pangkor during school holidays on a get the kid fat program. And hey, it worked, haha… good food plus a fierce aunty, who wouldn’t eat? I mean, breakfast was like a few house away between 30 cents to 50 cents for a bowl of noodles, then lunch at home, another few home away for laksa and red bean for tea then dinner and follow my uncle out for supper! So you do the math!

Anyway, back to the topic, we got some of the wildgeeks to Pangkor and we actually brought along our mountain bikes. We did a crazy climb from the Golden Sands Beach up the road next to Pangkor Hill to Sg. Pinang Kecil town for breakfast. I will leave the cycling to wildgeek’s website to post.

The first thing I look for is the local nasi lemak. Its a small packet of nasi lemak wrapped in banana leaf, the unique thing is that its only rice with a piece of fish and curry gravy on it. Its about 80 cents per packet but its so good, I can eat 3 easily! The prove the point, I offered it to some of the wildgeeks whom are already having their noodles, they decline at first, but after the first bite, they just kept the whole packet ;0

After some stunning nasi lemak, I got a bowl of the local noodles, its basically noodles of your choice in clear soup stock (usually from seafood) then add with toppings like roast pork (char siew) and fish cake or sometimes some seafood. A scope of sambal is then added to the soup and you just stir them up and eat. Its spicy yet the stock is still tasty at RM2.20 per bowl :D
Many other type of kiuh, yau char kuai, chee cheong fun and etc. are also available around this area for breakfast. Just wish I had more time this trip, there are just so much more to eat!
