“A lot of outstation people come here just to eat this chicken feet wantan mee”… these are the words that I was being told just before enterting Restoran Hong Ta in Kulim, Kedah. The flagship stall here is the Chicken Feet Wantan Mee stall which is well known and famous.

Upon looking at the wantan noodles being serve, I couldn’t agree more. The texture of the noodles are thicker than the average factory supplied wantan mee and its smooth and does not stick to each other. Another way to see, is when you “da bao” (pack) your dried wantan mee home, put it on a plate and if its loose and doesn’t stick together, its good noodles, these are the method thought to me by Mr.Fong who makes his own wantan noodles and skin at How Kee in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

Yen Nam gave us a tip, saying that the right method to eat the wantan noodles is to take some braised chicken feet sauce and pour it over the noodles before enjoying ;) . The chicken feet are very soft and melts off in your mouth.

The other thing we tried here are their white coffee which are rich and nice. The chai koay is good as well, steamed hot before serving. We were told that the chicken rice is good too but at that point of time, we are already overwhelm by the amount of food we had :) .

With the price of the wantan mee starting at just RM2.50, its really affordable here! Not only is the food good here but so is the price! A must try if you ever come to Kulim ;) .

Yen Nam, the man who just got married decided to take us around Kulim for food till we drop… we started by going to Wenxi for Dim Sum. It was a Sunday and a working day there in Kedah but somehow, it feels like a non working day as you see most of the local are still at dim sum breakfast and Yen Nam seems to know everyone there :O.

I can’t recall how much was it, I think it was around RM60? for dim sum for 2 tables, consider cheaper than KL a lot. They have the usual steam and fried varieties here. The dim sum are ok, not bad and a little different from those in KL too. They have like steam yam dim sum there, something I have not seen in KL. The lotus leaf rice, fried lobak kueh and pau is quite nice as well.

It was way past midnight and we just left the happening Autocity after celebrating a birthday and the foodies decided to stop by Bukit Mertajam for supper. Our car was reluctant at first, as most of us are already turning into zombies and our driver was tired too…

But somehow we followed the cars and since we are there, decided why not, let’s try anyway. At Jalan Stesen, you will see this stall managed by a man with poney tail frying the famous duck egg fried koay teow. Most stalls up north here still uses charcoal to fried koay teow, as the heat is intense and give you the nice wok taste on your noodles. Duck egg is used instead of chicken is another unique thing about their char koay teow here.

You will notice a long queue of people packing the koay teow and the rows of tables on the street gets filled up quite quickly as well despite that its already 1am plus in the morning. So expect to wait a while but the outcome is a good and nice plate of koay teow that doesn’t stick too each other and not too oily, really good in taste too.

I am glad I managed to try this, thanks to Yen Nam for bringing us here ;) . Oh ya, I don’t know how much it cost, our friend belanja as well, I think its RM2.50 per plate only?
