I got up very early this Sunday morning despite sleeping late the previous night from a full day of activities and food shopping and preparation. I then got down to get all the food we have prepared ready and head out to Subang Jaya’s wet market to get some of my favourite fried noodles and siew yok plus some mang chang kueh from PJ Pancake (this guy on bike who sells mang chang kueh, very popular).

Finally, by 8.30am… we are ready to depart for our little picnic trip to Hutan Lipur Lentang in Pahang. I took us about 1 hour to reach Lentang through the Karak Highway. This park is located just next to the Karak Highway after the Bukit Tinggi turning. You will see the signboard to turn left to Lentang and you technical go under the highway to get to the otherside.

You can drive into the park, we went all the way to the end of the tarred road and park our car there. It was about 9.30am then and its already quite a lot of people there. We took the small trail next to the car park along the river uphill to the higher part of the river which flow from the waterfall.

We didn’t want to go too deep to the bigger waterfall (as per what I read on some website) but stopped at a nice picnic spot by a bridge. We setup a tent there for changing of clothes and a picnic canvas to put our food. We had prepare lots of yummies like fruits/vege salad with thousand island dressing (mix mayonese, ketchup, sugar, salt, pepper & some vinegar to taste), sardine sandwich, cocktail sausages with mustard… then packed food from the market includes fried noodles with good sambal, siew yok and mang chang kueh.

We also brought some tangerine oranges and packet drinks along which we dipped in the river to keep them cool. After a quick setup, we got filled ourselves up before getting ourselves wet. The water here is superbly icey cold! There are some nice spot and some parts are dip enough and nicely shaped for a nice lie down, reminds me of the spa I went to in Glenmarie ;) .

The entire morning was really cooling and not wet, but when the sun came out, surprisingly the place is still very cooling with very nice breeze flowing down with the river. It was so relaxing that most of us was tempted to take a nice nap here after all the makan and spa in the mini waterfall next to us.

It was indeed worth all the preparation effort and this is a cool spot to come back for picnic or camping ;) .

murukuikanAbout a week ago, I brought a big packet of Muruku Ikan as snacks… I didn’t really look at the label details but all this while I realise they have a notice that they haev the word “barangan asli” all over it and its also stated that they will reward you RM20,000.00 if you find any company producing the same product under their brand.

I didn’t pay too much attention to those until this week when John went to bought another big packet and pass 1 to me… then hey… I realised that the packaging is slightly different, the baby drawing is different and when I compare, its a totally different brand but similar packaging, color, look and feel. John didn’t even realise it until I highlight it to him!

Both are muruku ikan but different company and brand name but both use a baby as the brand. We open up both, did a blind test and most of the people can easier tell the original brand which to us still taste nicer. The other one is somehow lacking in taste but 2 tasteless guys (let’s not mention name :P ) in office seems to like it though.

So, the next time you buy your muruku ikan, check first before buying! Make sure you get the one you fancy!

blackpeppercrabI saw this cupnoodle at the hypermarket the other day… its Super’s new Black Pepper Crab flavoured cupnoodles… I thought wow, these guys are getting more creative and decided to give it a try although it’s a lot more expensive than the usual cupnoodles at about RM2.60, I got one to try.

Its been lying on my desk in office for a while but this morning I decided to give it a try. In the packaging, there’s a packet of dried crabsticks (super small size), a packet of flavouring (lots of black pepper), a packet of black dark sauce and 2 packet of oil.

I put everything but only 1 packet of oil instead, didn’t want it to be so oily. I must say, the aroma is great, you just can’t wait for it to be ready to eat and its crabby aroma all over my desk. But all this excitement or maybe over expectation turn out to be dissapointing, its so so only. Although the soup is flavourfull and black pepper is strong but the noodles doesn’t taste as good as addictive as their tomyam one.

Conclusion, I will stick to Super’s Tomyam flavour cupnoodles which also cost half the price!
