This Chinese New Year various household are offering a new snacks to visitors and guests, fried crab stick chips. Its very delicious and addictive and can be kept in air tight containers.

I made some for my house, altough its a little time consuming but its quite easy to make:

Array

1. Unfrozen crab sticks and prepare to cut

Array

2. Open up the crab sticks flat on a chopping board

Array

Array

3. Slice the crab sticks to thin slices (so they cook faster)

4. Deep fry the crab sticks, start with a low fire (don’t want to burnt them too fast) when you drop them in then slowly move up to a high fire but turn it low once its brown

Array

Array

5. Once crab sticks are brown, let them cool on kicthen towel to absorb excess oil

Array

6. Pack into air tight containers

I bought 10 packets of crab sticks and was able to make about 6 containers of them in 2 1/2 hours time. Today I also found out that in Sitiawan, they are also frying Onions dipped in batter… not a bad idea ;) .
