I had passed by Tasty Pot a twice last weekend and both instances, its packed with people and everyone seems to be queuing for what looks like a roast lamb that they are serving. I first thought was… wow, roast lamb for a steamboat place.. that’s not bad… but its so crowded.

So, yesterday after work, I decided to head there with Ed and Sky to check it out. The steamboat buffet cost RM23.80 per adult and drinks are additional. Its more pricey comparing to the other competitors in this so called steamboat village in Sunway but their food quality and varities is really a lot better.

They have 6 types of soup that you can choose from… chicken herbal, tomyam, soya bean soup (errr…), curry soya bean soup (lagi… err… ), chong qing spicy soup & HK Satin porridge. We are allowed to choose 2 and we decided on chicken herbal and tomyam… oh ya… they give you a piece of paper to mark yourself what soup and drinks you want, self service is the best service?

Anyhow, we got 1 small problem here, the pot they we got seems to be leaking! As in the tom yam is leaking to the chicken herbal soup… we thought, nevermind… tomyam is still ok… but we found out the hard way… anyway.. back to the food..

Just like most steamboat places here and thanks to Yuen whom revolutionize steamboat buffet to offer chicken wings! So, they have their share of chicken wings here too… not bad.. .as well as curry chicken, fried meehoon, fried rice, fried buns and all sort.

Besides the ready to eat food available, they are also grilled food available… in another competitor’s place, you pick your food they grill for you but here… they technically grilled different stuff one at a time… since its a weekday, I don’t think they have the lamb thing… when I got there, they had grilled potatos, sausages, kembong fish and otak-otak ready… then later grilled satay prawns, sweetcorns and shellfish too!

Then comes the steamboat part, I was already eating all the above before steamboat… ahha… for steamboat, there’s a whole row of stuff to pick from of more than 150 choices! The good thing is all the quality of stuff here for steamboat is not bad as well…. crabs, prawns, fish balls, foo chok, etc. are all available. Oh ya, this place serve no pork, so your non pork eating friends can come too.

The food here is good, varities is plenty and very fresh.. althought its a premium pricing but its worth it… we paid RM23.80 per pax plus RM7.00 for a pot of tea for sharing in total.

Miharu was telling me about this place and we had wanted to go there one Saturday morning but the queue was long with people waiting outside for a table, so we decided to skip… then one morning I picked up Sky and decided to have dim sum and decided to come here since Sky also high recommend this place.

Jin Xuan is nicely renovated with half open and half air conditioned. You are then given a piece of paper to mark your order of dim sum and drinks, so your dim sum are steamed to orders but for fried stuff and all they will bring it over.

Since there are only 2 of us and couldn’t eat much… we decided to stick to the conventional dim sum of har kow (prawn dumpling), siew mai (pork), steamed fishpaste, pork ribs and a bowl of porridge. The dim sum range from RM 3.50 to RM4.00 each and RM3.50 for the porridge. A pot of jasmine tea for 2 persons cost RM3.00. Prices are ok since the size of the dim sum are quite decent too.

Dim Sum means “touching the heart” in Chinese, so character it should have includes being fine, elegant, well prepared and so delicious that it touches your heart when eating it. I would have to say that the dim sum here is quite good, above average but have yet to touch my heart la… hahaha… but pricing is ok and taste is good, so no wonder they have such long queues. Hope that they can maintain their quality of food plus service here, doing a good job so far :) .

I was driving to meeting one day and I heard this radio ad on KFC’s new Jom Jimat Everyday meal… RM5.90 for a KFC meal just like what everyone is doing nowadays. McDonalds seems to have a huge success with their RM5.95 meals that even my nephew in primary school knew about… then Subway, Starbucks, Burger King… everyone seems to have a budget meal but mostly time restricted.

Array

Its interesting that KFC offer this the whole afternoon… so I dragged a few guys from the office to check it out… I ordered Set A which is RM5.90 before tax and RM6.20 after text. It comes with rice (colonel chicken rice as they named it, looks like cooked with chicken stock), coleslaw, one piece of chicken (original or spicy of your choice) plus 1 soft drink.

Array

KFC being KFC the chicken is nice and going with the rice and coleslaw turns out to be ok plus a Pepsi at the end to really fill you up if you didn’t have enough. Its was quite ok and by far, this is the cheapest KFC I had in years.

I still prefer conventional chicken rice but once in a while when you have that KFC itch and don’t want to spend a lot, this could be your solution :) .
