Before returning to KL, I went to Perling for breakfast at Queen Park Coffeeshop which is a 2 shoplot kopitiam. I ordered their southern style wantan mee… which is kind of small, wantan noodles cooked then topped with clear gravvy and chili sauce, no black sauce then served with a few pieces of char siew and chops of spring onions, that’s it. It’s RM3.50 a bowl but I think I need 1 1/2 bowl for myself.. hehe… but its really good and I like it with the chili sauce which is optional.

The coffeshop also sells nasi lemak, the rice brings out a strong aroma from the banana leave use, quite nice but the sambal and boiled egg topping is so so aja la… maybe I am used to the Perak style hehe…

I also tried their nyonya bak chang here and its great! Big in size and generous amount of fillings for RM3.40 each, so good that I can’t resist back some back for the family ;) .

Like most out of KL places… people here take rice for breakfast, the mix rice counter here offering a lot of good looking dishes and there is also a loh ark (braised duck) stall that I saw a lot of people waiting for take away. There is just so much to eat here but this is quite a good place to stop for breakfast, especially like their bak chang (dumpling)!

I was back in Johor again and back to Stulang Laut for their famous mee rebus… however this time the mee rebus place below the Wawasan Open Uni was closed… so we went to the other one nearby… not sure if its the same… the restaurant name is Restoran Enam Puluhan.

The place is quite crowded and much cleaner and better atmosphere.. and I think the mee rebus is a lot better than the other place.. the gravvy is thick with a lot of cruncy topping on top, very nice. Its the usual stuff in it, green chilies, boiled eggs, taugeh, etc.

They also serve grilled otak-otak and all sort of Indonesian food here like ayam penyet and so on, didn’t have stomach to try that… was already too full!

I visited Canton-i twice so far, once at the 1U branch and another time at the Sunway Pyramid branch and so far, both are satisfied visits but its not that gentle on the wallet though. I prefer the setting at the Sunway Pyramid branch, roomier and a good view of the lagoon while the 1U one feels a bit cramp.

Anyway, I must say the food here is good and truly hong kong flavour and dishes all the way just like how all these are served in char chan teng and small restaurants in Hong Kong. I noticed the ingredents used here are of really good quality, which makes the food good, hong kong kailan that are huge in size, cow brand milk for their tea, big fresh prawns for the wantan, etc.

On the first visit, I had a wantan mee… serving it like hong kong style meaning plain soupy wantan noodles with big shrimps in the wantan with just one or two pieces of kailan. But of course, to be a bit accomodating to the local flavour, they provided dry option (which cost more!) and green chilies too. The noodles itself is good and chewy and the wantan are a must try here with big chucky bites of shrimps in it… yummy! Soup wise… its the typical wantan mee soup you get in Hong Kong… not to our taste la..

The sui kau or prawn dumpling is not bad too but I must say the shrimp wantan wins hands out ;) . The wantan mee goes for RM11.80 for soup and RM12.80 for dry one!

I also tried their small size egg tarts… its like RM5.25 for 3 pieces but its really good, just like those you get in char chan teng in Hong Kong but… at that price, just try try ok liao la… hehe…

Today on my second visit, I tried their carp ball fish with lettuce porridge… according to my dad, in China and Hong Kong, most of the fishball or even yong tau foo uses carp fish fillings. The porridge only have 3 fishballs in it with very much soften lettuce and yau char kwai inside. The fishball is light and soft type, not the usual tender ping pong fishball, but its good, but only 3… a bit too little I feel for RM11.80 porridge. The porridge is hong kong style too… all mashed up and cooked to a starchy texture, not my kind of thing la.

I also tried their roast meat rice with a combination of honey glazed bbq pork (char siew) and roast pork belly (siew yok). The char siew is really good, soft and tender, siew yok is crispy but ok only la. The rice is also serve with quite a bit of kailan (more generous than in Hong Kong) and also half a braised egg ;) .

One of the other thing I like here is their Hong Kong Milk Tea… the tea itself is full of flavour plus the good milk tea making it very good either hot or served with crushed ice but its a whooping RM5.50 each!

Overall, I think the food here is good but a bit pricey but I still see quite a full house even during the recession… I guess people are willing to pay for good food ;) . Anyway, for me is just to try try… and I must say… its a good try.

You can check out their menu and branches at their website, apparently same boss as Dragon-i ;) .
