The shop was packed when I was there for lunch, which speaks for itself how good the food are. With Penang cooking background the shop stir up excellent curry noodles, soup or dry and now even offered curry chicken rice. They also have pork noodles available but when I am here, I only target their curry noodles ;) .

John and I was so syiok with it we almost didn’t had enough, next trip you will see us ordering the big portion! Damage was RM6 for each of us for the regular noodles plus 1 herbal tea drink, pricing is reasonable!

From what I know, the owners used to operate a canteen at Proton factory and had gave that up to open their stalls in Sri Muda and the shop now operated by their son. The boss is guai lou, so don’t be surprise if he is cooking up your noodles :P

Suggest you should go slightly earlier as peak lunch hour is really packed but they do serve it up quite fast. Quality is still as good as the old stall and that is a good thing. Highly recommended to anyone who loves curry noodles.

Heong Peah is a well known Chinese delicacy in Teluk Intan. According to Wiki, Heong Peah or 香饼 in Mandarin (Fragrant Biscuit) has a crispy layer outside and contain a mixture of flour, oil, maltose, sugar, sesame, and shallots. ‘Heong Peah’ market in Teluk Intan is dominated by two family-run enterprises: Sin Guan Tin and Sin Joo Heong.

Of the above, my colleague’s aunt actually owns and runs Sing Guan Hoe and so far I find their biscuit to be the best! However the trick is you must have the biscuits fresh, the modern vacuumed pack can keep it nice and fluffly for the next 2-3 weeks but best is to be taken immediately or within a week as they bake and pack their biscuit fresh.

During my last trip to Sitiawan, I made an effort to stop by at Sing Guan Hoe to pick up the pre-ordered biscuits (they have a long queues of order to be met) and got to taste some freshly baked heong peah and have a cool and viewing how they make their biscuit.

Our initial orders of like 8 packets became like 14 after everyone started to taste the biscuit and those that we brought back, everyone loves them! I highly recommend this brand to anyone, its soft, fluffy and sweetness is just right ;) .

It was Monday morning and I had to rush up to Ipoh for a morning meeting, so it was one of those leaving KL in the wee hours of the morning and heading up the highway. Everything was going well, with a little time buffer we even check out my Perak food guide on some makan place in Ipoh.

As we are approaching the Ipoh toll, the norm for me is to keep right as that is where the smartag lanes are located right… and so I did… but before I know it (travelling highway speed), the road had changed! The highway splits into 2, left to Ipoh and right is straight up north, no more chance to turn into Ipoh! Next thing I know the GPS asked me to drive 25km further up north to make a u-turn! *stone*

So anyone, since I had to make a u-turn at Kuala Kangsar, we decided to check the town out for breakfast but we got a called that meeting rescheduled slightly later… not to tell more grandma stories… we stumbled upon this place that sells prawn noodles. Its located in Taman Bunga Raya and at the end of the residential road there is this wooden house that is actually Kedai Kopi Aik Huat.

The place is pretty quiet but you get quite a lot of locals stopping buy for noodles or doing take aways. The stall is in shop and they have a choice of mee or koay teow, I don’t see any meehoon. Anyway, there are 2 types of mee, the normal yellow noodles and another one that looks like hakka noodles but thicker. I was being told by the lady that this one does not contains alkaline and so I gave it a shot.

The prawn noodles is RM3.30 per bowl and it is topped with prawns, slices of pork, kangkung and some fish cake. I was bring asked by Andrew what’s the rating for it, I have it 6-7 out of 10… mainly the mee is good, smooth and soft plus no alkaline. Every slurp of the noodles is quite flavorful with prawn taste… but when you drink the soup, its not addictive. So maybe no MSG? I don’t know… haha.. but the prawn flavors are good enough for me but good noodles.

I wouldn’t drive all the way up to eat it but if I am in the area, don’t mind dropping by this kampung style place again ;) .
