Sabah – Mee Goreng Tuaran @ Restoran Lok Kyun

I was bugging Yau Leng on what’s good to eat in Sabah and he recommended that the must try and one unique thing is mee goreng Tuaran. This fried noodles is unique to Sabah and originated from this small town known as Tuaran. From what I read, the noodles are self made and is fried to cooked.

Yau Leng was telling me about this other place that is good but our van driver only know how to go to Restoran Lok Kyun which is the original place for this noodles. So we made an early morning 40 mins journey from Kota Kinabalu to Tuaran just for this!

We arrived in Tuaran town, its a small and quiet town and we headed straight to Lok Kyun. Over here I noticed the on their menu that their few famous dishes are mee tuaran, tauhu sumbat (yong tau fu), wanton soup, daging berbola bulat and keladi babi. Since its breakfast, we ordered mee tuaran for each of us with some tauhu sumbat and wanton soup to share.

The mee goreng tuaran are fried noodles with eggs/vege topped with some bbq pork, fish cake and also some cooked braised pork on top. The noodles are a bit oily but I guess without it, it will be difficult to fried raw noodles till they are cooked. The rest of the topping are standard but the cooked pork is very tasty.

Tauhu sumbat… well you can choose white taufu or fried taufu for this. The middles are stuffed with fish paste and topped with gravy. Its quite nice but the wanton soup is just normal to me.

All together the meal for about 6 of us cost around RM50.00. The van driver told me that noodles in Tuaran is a lot more cheaper than KK itself… but I told him in Tuaran the rate is close to KL and KK price is higher than KL.. .hehehe…

Anyway, it was an interesting journey to Tuaran to try this unique noodles but I would be more keen to visit the other one that Yau Leng mentioned ;) .
