This chicken rice stall in Medan Selera next to the PJ Oldtown market have been around forever and besides the normal chicken rice, they are also famous for their pork curry, curry chicken, etc.

I ordered chicken rice and just can’t resist ordering the curry pork as well, it was superb, tender and rich yummy pork curry to go with the chicken rice.

Pork Curry

Best part about this place, you can always get greedy and order yong tau foo from Seong Kee next door. The yong tau foo are made to order, so expect a short wait and they do also serve other goodies like assam fish, braised pork, etc.

The only thing about this place is that it can get really hot in the afternoon as its open air in the middle of the food court, but hey food here is yummy, so no complains ;) .

We reached Jakarta just at after work peak hours rushing in traffic with everyone else to get to our hotel to get ready for our meeting next early morning.

After checking in, we decided to catch a quick but good dinner. Pak Sky suggested Bakmi GM which he had tried before and so we headed to the nearest one for dinner.

Bakmi is like sarawak kolomee but using maggi like noodles. Its topped with small pieces of chicken and mushroom plus vege. You will be given a small bowl of tasty soup to take with the noodles too and mixing some to the noodles makes it easier to eat.

There’s a set promotion, just Rp.20,000.00 for a set of bakmi special with 2 pieces of pangsit goreng and tiny little mineral water bottle. But being greedy as usual, we ordered more pangsit goreng, chicken siew mai and also tofu stuffed with meat (like yong tau foo la).

The pangsit goreng is technically fried wanton but with little filling and lots of crispy skins. They provide a reddish sweet sauce to take with it.

Overall, its a pretty good dinner and service is good as well, all of us walked away with bloated stomach ;)

Sam You is a very well known place by PJ folks for good food plus good price. So don’t be surprise if you can’t get a table if you don’t do your booking but there are some tables outside the restaurant you can sit too if you don’t want to wait.

The service here is fast, efficient and helpful too. I reserved a table for 8 of us to celebrate my mum’s birthday last weekend.

Seafood Pot

Stir fried fish fillet

We were offered a promotion of seafood pot at RM25 only and “chak sing pan” (seven stars grouper) fish at only RM7 per 100g.. that’s quite ok for an aircond restaurant. We went for the seafood pot but took stir fried fish fillet instead of the whole fish.

Stir fried asparagus

Pork Ribs

The other goodies we ordered are their self made tofu (with soy milk) with are braised with fishballs, stir fried asparagus and pork ribs.

Overall the food is good but I find the ribs a little too sweet and the fish fillet a little too salty. Most of the stuff are valued for money but the ribs cost a bit more. The bill came to Rm130++ for 8 of us, not too bad at least service is fast and good here and that’s a reason why there’s always such a large crowd here.

So if you plan to visit Sam You, make sure you reserve a table ;) .
