Sg Lembing Trip: Batang Trip 2, Part 2

Con’t from part 1:

It was a hot afternoon and I decided to take a nap waking up to dinner time. We went out for an early dinner at around 6pm and the only place for dishes in Sg Lembing is Restoran Hoover (GPS: N3 54.991 E103 02.151). We are glad that we got there early as we were the first customer for the night and the small family of a lady and a few kids starting cooking and serving us. Soon as we begins to eat, the crowds arrived and it was quite a wait for them. The food here is ok la, normal chinese dishes.

The highlight that everyone is awaiting is actually the infamous Sg Lembing Roast Pork. Here in the villages there are 2 places known to roast the whole pig and in huge giant oven on Saturday night. We got there at about 7.30pm and the pig is already ready. This place seems to be really popular as the a few groups of people were already there waiting for their roast pork. We waste no time and Johnny ordered 3 kilos plus some bbq pork for our supper.

The roast pork place (GPS: N3 55.500 E103 02.185) is actually the butcher’s house and next to it is what looks like a butchery house and an outdoor giant oven where the pigs are raise down to roast. According to my dad this is how it had been done years and years ago when he was young (my dad used to raise pigs and sell pork).

The roast pork goes for RM30+ per kilo (can’t remember the exact) we soon brought it back to the resthouse to induldge. The roast pork is superbly fresh and still warm as we eat it. Many people asked me how good is it, I must say its only the experience of seeing your meat coming from a whole roast pig that good, the pork itself, is just normal la.

The spent the night chatting, watching tv, resting, some decided to finish the beers and talking about topics I won’t want to join while “polluting” the local river (you know who you are).

The next morning, we got up way before 5am and left the house at 5am sharp to head up to Panorama Hill in Sg Lembing. The reason we have to be that early is to catch the sunrise in the morning and we got 3 geeks decided to sleep in, one been up the hill before, two more just had tried too hard to help us to finish the Chang and San Miguel.

The trail ((GPS: N3 54.938 E103 02.194) starts near the Sg Lembing school. I must say, there’s sure a lot of crazy people doing this with us. The whole trail up is literally packed with people along the way. Be warned, there’s no toilet anywhere up there, so if you have need halfway, you really gotta be creative and that, is another story to be told another day :P.

I took about 40-45mins to get to the top through slow hiking on uneven cement steps and partly mild treks, for unfit guys like me, there’s plenty of stops to make the whole journey up but once you reached the top, its rewarding!

The view is just fantastic (just look down, if you turn behind, its just people everywhere), you are technically above the clouds overlooking Sg Lembing town and river one side and the other sides is an endless landscape of hills and clouds… just magical.

Going down hill is pretty jam up as everyone got up at different times but going down the same. Other than the few groups we saw at the waterfall the previous day, there are also many other tourists and also Singaporeans visitors whom came by bus for the hike then breakfast in town.

We headed to the food court in town for the famous spring water tofu and the queue was incredibly long with a lot of tourists queue-ing for it. I went for the infamous Sg Lembing tomato mee, basically local noodles fried in high heat over oil then covered with a gravvy of ketchup. Joey managed to get us a plate of the spring water tofu to try and I must say, this is really nice, smooth and soft, very good!

After the tiring climb, we got back to the resthouse to clean up, pack up and hurried back to KL. I made a quick stop at the noodles factory near our resthouse to buy some of the local noodles back home to cook. It cost RM3.60 or was it RM3.80 per pack but quick expensive if you ask me but ok only la.

On the way back we stopped by Maran at Sin Tong Kok for lunch (GPS: N3 40.227 E102 52.496) . This part of the country is known for good river fish and I ordered a piece of “Nim Yue” (a kind of big and expensive river fish), stir fried wild boar (they got a lot from the timber country), ginger duck (an old style hard to find in KL anymore) and some other dishes. Pricing is not bad la, RM160 for 12 of us.

It was really a great trip and I was glad that everyone had fun plus best part is each of the geek spend less than RM300 each for the whole trip including  accomodation, transports, food, snacks, etc. They are now already talking about the next trip, so let’s see where it will get us ;).

Hi all, very interesting trip info & experience. appreciated & will take note on all of it as I am going with a group on this July 24-25. anyone like to go again?

Hi there. I’ve been there before too. Yeah, Sg. Lembing is a great place. However, the design of its entrance gate is downright lousy and needs a serious revamp. BTW, I have read that it was actually the work of egoistic MPK officers after rejecting a much, much more elegant Chinese-styled design proposed by locals. Very funny……
