Klang: Bak Kut Teh @ Restoran Thong Wei, Pandamaran

We went to Pandamaran, Klang to get Miharu’s City service at a Honda specialist shop here, as we had yet to eat anything for the day, we decided to venture out to shops nearby for a quick makan while waiting for the car to be worked at.

Nearby, hidden at Jalan Sentosa behind some houses and shops is a corner shop, Restoran Thong Wei selling bak kut teh. I asked the mechanic how’s the bkt there and he said, its not bad, can give it a try.

As we are approaching the shop, I noticed that the cook and I assume is the lady boss looks like a Thai lady, maybe she is Thai-Chinese I supposed. Even at the praying altar I do see Thai relevance.

Anyhow, this shop is quite popular and mainly locals, plus the prices are still friend too. If you are alone, you can order a bowl instead, as its cheaper at RM5.80 for small and RM6.80 for big. Otherwise you can go for claypot at RM8.80 per head. Rice is 80 cents for big and 40 cents for small.

We ordered 1 1/2 heads for claypot (small bone with some internal mixed) as there are 2 of us, with a bowl of yoo tiao plus 2 rices. The rice are topped with fried shallots the way I like it.

I would rate the soup as average, this is not the heavy type nor the light type but in between in terms of thickness and taste. But what is really nice is the meat, it looks fatty but when you take it, its quite alright.

The meat are tender as the small bone part always is but not too hard and dry. The skin with its layer of fats looks heavy, but when you actually take it, its smooth and nice to eat (well I did remove the access fats, but there are still quite a bit of the skin).

Surprisingly the bkt here turns out better than I expect and we had a decent brunch thanks to it.
