I was a hot afternoon and on the way back, we decided to da bao take away at Gajah Behrang. Miharu told me of this Chinese Nasi Lemak that’s famous. The shop is name is Nasi Lemak dan Minuman Ah Ho.

This place is packed and instantly you will notice a queue of people in line ordering or taking away nasi lemak. Parking is almost impossible here and so I had to wait in the car while Miharu jumped down to buy.

We bought 2 packets, 1 with chicken and the other with sotong (yau yi). In the packet, you get the rice with a standard serving of cucumber, kangkung, peanuts and anchovies topped with Miharu’s selection of fried egg and fried chicken for one and sotong with fried egg again for another. Both packets cost RM 7.50.

The rice is not sticky and each rice its on its own, what is nice is the rice is not too overhelmed with santan, so you don’t get bloated after eating. The sambal is sort of watery but its good to go with the nasi lemak, now I known why its so popular plus affordable pricing too.

Along the main road of Jalan Bendehara lies a small and humble old coffeeshop known as Seu Lean Fung. Most motorist would not notice it when passing but a visit there shows that it is quite popular and Miharu told me this place have been around since she was young.

There are two stalls selling noodles right up front, one is yong tau foo and another have hee kiaw mee, wantan mee and curry too. I went for the hee kiaw noodles while Miharu took the wantan noodles.

The hee kiaw noodles is not bad, I took the dry out, not too oily, the chili is a little spicy but after a few mouth full, start to taste pretty good. The wantan noodles is somewhat the south style, no black sauce, just some chili which you can get in quite a few places in Melaka too and its not too bad. Best part is for 2 bowls is RM5.60, which means per bowl is just RM2.80.

The coffeeshop itself is known for their kaya, which they made on their own to sell and it cost RM2.70 each. I had a bottle a month back and its very good and can last quite long keeping it in the fridge. I ordered a toast bun with kaya and butter just to try costing RM1. The bun is first toasted on a small stove with charcoal under and top with butter and kaya when done.

The only comment is that the tea is too light for my liking, maybe I should had ordered coffee instead since Melaka is famous for it. Overall, its a nice authentic coffeeshop to eat that still maintains affordable prices.

I asked Micol for recommendation of supper to buy for take away in Seremban at night and the first thing that came to her mind was mix pork porridge (chee chap chuk)! It was a chilly day as it was raining in the afternoon and I thought, hey that would be a great suggestion, nice and hot comfort food for a cold day.

I was told that the mix pork porridge is so famous that it is usually finished within 2 1/2 hours, so I had to get there before 9pm. I reached there at 8.45pm and when I came to Kedai Makanan dan Minuman Kawan, it was as if they are getting ready to close. Lucky they still have some left and I managed to da bao 3 packets for my trip down to Melaka.

The way they sell the porridge here is different, cooked meat and other parts of pork are being hung on the stall. Once you ordered, they will take it down and cut out the quantity needed. They are then tossed into the cooked porridge and topped with ginger, pepper, spring onions, etc.

Each packet cost me RM 3.50 and the serving is generous. What impressed me most is that the porridge actually taste very very good! The porridge is smooth, you can hardly feel the rice and it very tasty by it own. The mix pork is great to eat with the porridge and each part is well cooked. The fried intestines are very fragrant although its already soft soaking in the porridge.

I must say that this is thumbs up and I now understand why it is so popular. For those going for a try, they are serve chicken that’s sold out when I reach. I think the next time, I would like to sit there and try a hot fresh bowl ;) .
