I had been noticing this place everytime I use the Bukit Baru way to town in Melaka, finally last weekend I had a chance to check it out. I got there at 7.45pm and it was so crowded I had to wait about 10-15 mins to get a place to seat. They offered bak kut teh here in 2 choices, one is pork and the other is beef.

I ordered the beef and waited for about 25-30 mins as they shop is quite laid back… well it fact its not a shop but a house on the main road which had converted it’s porch into a makan place. I also noticed there’s 1 table that’s having a steamboat with peppery bak kut teh soup with beef, etc.

I ordered a can of beer for my wait at RM7.50 and the family that’s running the place was kind enough to offered me the day’s papers for the wait.

Finally my beef bak kut teh came, its a well portioned claypot of beef, beef internals, beef balls with foo chuk and cabbage served with a bowl of rice. The rice is a sticky, but the beef bak kut teh was good! Its not the usual bak kut teh soup as I expected. Its actually this thick and peppery soup with all the ingredents inside.

The soup is peppery hot but very very good and as I was eating, I was sweating hot and nose was running. The beef bak kut teh costed me RM10.50 and the final verdict is good, especially on a rainy day! Definately something unique to try, but try to avoid peak hours!

Bored of the same old Melaka scene at night? Well… I think Bert’s Garden provide a good alternative to that. Located in Tanjung Kling and away from all the hustle and bustle of Melaka town especially weekend traffic jams, this seems to be a nice place to chill out and chat the night away.

Its located quite far away from Melaka town itself near to Riveria Hotel this actually leads to the old road to go to Port Dickson from Melaka. Its quite hidden and quite easy to miss as the road is dark, so I hope the GPS helps.

Bert’s Garden is locate by the seaside with a nice little parking lot where you see a lot of locals trying their luck fishing there. Bert’s Garden is actually the garden of a colonial house which have been refurbished to be a restaurant cum beer garden kind of style.

There are plenty of seats by the seaside, but becareful of those in the hut, we had splashing sea water jumping up on us when the wave got stronger. The beer here goes for RM38++ per jug and we ordered some Commando Fries (RM10) which are french fries fried with peanuts, onions, anchovies, etc. very very nice!

The deep fried sotong is good too but at RM20 is really too costly and chicken chop with black pepper is yummy too but RM18. Food is a bit pricey to me but at least taste good.

But if you like a place with a nice and breezer environment with sound of waves sitting by the seaside, this could be your place ;) .

Melaka was really jammed up last weekend, it was really madness queue trying to get into town, so me and Miharu decided to just see what is there to eat in Bukit Beruang instead. We stumbled upon this sort of like wai sek kai, its actually a few coffeeshops in a row setting up stalls and seatings on the road.

Located next to the Medan Selara Bukit Beruang (which only open day time), this wai sek kai opens for business at night and it seems to be quite popular as it is quite crowded. There are various choices of stalls here, but the weirdest for me is KL Popiah… since I come from KL and I always thinks Melaka (pork lard) or Penang (wet soupy) popiahs are better!

Anyhow, I ordered an ABC and mix pork soup while Miharu ordered oo chien (fried oysters). The oo chien looks good, taste good but dissapointing because we are eating more flour than oysters. There are some tiny oysters but really too little.

The mix pork soup is ok la… but I prefer if the soup had been stronger in taste with more salted vege, ginger and pepper… maybe the style here is different but its written as Penang Pork soup… hmmm…

Anyway, we don’t find the food here too good but we have only tried 2 stalls, so maybe next time we will check out the others and see, the mix rice dishes look really interesting and there are still a lot of other choices here.

So my conclusion is the best thing I have eaten here so far, is the ABC :P
