Mui Hiong is known for their salted fish dishes… this humble makan place is located right at busy Jalan Medan Imbi. They specialized in salted fish dishes and the most popular one here are their steamed pork cake with salted fish.

I visited this place during lunch time with Andrew after one of our meeting in town. Most of the folks that comes here seems to know the lady boss very well, I am assuming mostly their business are from regular customers around the Imbi area.

We ordered the famous steamed pork cake with salted fish, braised pork with yam and a very unique dish, taugeh fried with salted fish and bittergound. The steam pork is very good as usual, but the portion is small as usual too. I would recommend each person to have his/her own steam pork then add on one or two dishes, its about RM5 each.

The braised pork with yam is so so only, cost about RM15-18, not really worth it. The taugeh with salted fish and bittergound is good, bittergound give a slight bitter but cooling taste then balance up with the salted fish, very nice!

Overall, it cost RM42.60 for 2 persons with rice plus drinks. Not that cheap but next time I will just order each person a steam pork and then share 1 nice dish like the taugeh. They also serve steam soup here if you fancy. Food is delicious and living up to its salted fish name, will visit again, wanna see what other salted fish delicacy they have ;) .

Was out with John & Joe for lunch in Puchong on our way to buy some seafood for bbq… John kept telling me how nice and how long the queue is for Gao Ren Guan in Puchong (just opposite Leong Ar) on weekends. Just this morning, John SMS me that they have open up another branch in SS15/4E in Subang Jaya, must be doing well:D.

The restaurant is comfortable with aircond and nice decor too… from the menu it looks like very homestyle traditional chinese dishes to me… most dishes starts at RM8-12 each. They have quite a wide varieties like steamed salted chicken (RM20 for half bird), braised yam pork belly, pork intestine fried with pineapple, etc.

We ordered 2 of the recommended dishes, which is the stuffed tau pok with pork/vege inside and also the stuffed bittergound with pork/vege inside… small size at RM12 each. We added a fried nam yu pork belly and braised pig offal (meaning internal organs) at RM8 each.

First up is the braised stuffed tau pok, its a very light soupy dish with the tau pok absorbing all the juices, very nice. The bittergound is likewise, its the same stuffing and way of cooking. It quite nice and the soup is great with rice to me.

The braised pig offal is very soft and tender, certain parts have fats but you don’t really feel too oily. The namyu pork belly are deep fried to crisped with a very nice aroma.

Food quality and service here is quite good so far… price can be on the high side for its portion but its some sort of Chinese fine food place to me, its still cheaper than going to a proper restaurant to order dishes. At least here you can order small portion of everything and try :) .

Tuk Tuk Dei technically means quite ok but so so in Cantonese and yet this is the name of nice and cozy coffeeshop in Ara Damansara. Its air conditioned and open and it just serve your usual coffeeshop stuff.

I like their teh-si special here, which is iced teh-si with palm sugar (gula melaka). You can see the layer of tea, milk and palm sugar in your drinks, taste just like any iced teh-si but palm sugar gives it a nice and rich aroma, pretty cool drink ;) .

I tried their bittergound noodles here, its basically soup noodles with bittergound, tomato and chicken in it, nothing to shout about, but when you feel heaty, its something nice to eat. The char koay teow is also not bad and so if the wantan mee with roast pork and curry :) .
