It was a good hash with tonnes of fun and flip flop going downhill at Sg Pening-Pening on a fine Saturday afternoon, but what was better is the good lunch that was waiting for us at Restoran Feng Ling at Taman Semarak Nilai.

We got there for a late lunch at about 2pm (the kitchen break at 3pm) and there were 6 of us. We ordered a Chicken Ginseng soup (half a chicken), a Chat Sing Pan (literally means 7 stars seabass), a sea cucumber pot (hoi sum poh), fried pork lard with luncheon meat and prawn as filling, roast pork/duck and some vegetables. We later top it up with another 2 dishes (vege and a kuai fah kai which is chicken mix with fish paste but put back to the chicken skin) as Jack and the family joined in.

The chicken ginseng soup was quite good, just nice for 6 persons with nice big chinese mushrooms on top of the chicken. As for the highly priced fish (RM96 for the fish alone, about 500-600g), we have it steamed, we really couldn’t appreciate it, I think its better folks like us stick to normal cheaper fishes, hehehe… waste money only. The sea cucumber pot is really good, sea cucumber are really soft and full of flavour, great to go with rice.

Now, what really special is this pork lard thing, I couldn’t believe my ears at first when the waitress recommended that, I mean, taking pork lard, which can gimme heart attack almost instantly and wrap it with more meat and prawns (cholesterol shooting up like rocket)? Hehe… but turns out, its not that bad. The pork lard is a really thin piece, fried to crisped with luncheon meat and peeled prawns and some century eggs plus vegetables as filling. The texture mix is good with crunchy skins, yummy!

In total, the damage was about RM285.00 inclusive of tea and rice, not too bad for an aircond full service Chinese restaurant, most likely can’t eat for the same price in KL, give it a try, but forget about the sing pan fish! Oh ya, this place also serve buddha jump over the wall, but you have to order in advance ;).

Its b’day season again, and this time 2 of our kawan decided to bash it out at Janbo Seafood in Sri Petaling, this place is located just opposite the Store supermarket. Its quite a cool idea because we got our own room (which can fits 2 tables) with a “retro” karaoke system. So, everyone transformed into super stars that nights, Jacky Cheung, Jay Chou, all appears out from each of us ;)
We took their Anniversary Set Menu A which cost RM333.33++ and consists of the below:
1. Janbo Fookchow Style “Pun Choy”
2. Braised Sharks Fin Soup with Abalone, Sea Cucumber & Fish Maw
3. Hong Kong Style Roasted Suckling Pig
4. Kampung Chicken with Chinese Herbs
5. Steamed Patin Munchong with Soya Sauce
6. Fried “Lingzi” Mushroom with Mixed Vegetable
7. Fried Longevity Noodles
8. Mixed Fruit with Sea Coconut
9. Special Mini B’day Buns
10. 1 free Sparkling Juice

Overall, the service is good and the food are not bad too. The “pun choy” is actually a way to cook very dishes into 1 and is popularized by rural folks in Hong Kong. Its basically a big pot with various kind of goodies inside. There are some good one from places like Tasty Tasty that will cost you RM48 per pax. The one we had are fook chow style and is quite different from all those I have tried, this one is a bit simple but its still nice to eat and try.

The place is a bit old and so are the karaoke system plus the songs. But I think we have had good fun that night ;)

Was in KL for a meeting, got here early for lunch and decided to go to this char siew (chinese bbq pork) place at Tangkat Tong Shin. Meng Kee is one of the most popular place around this area, its was like 10 mins to 12pm and already half the place is filled.

The place is converted from an old house just like most shops along the road. We ordered some Pak Cham Kai (braised chicken) and the famous Char Siew. As usual and yes I know, very unhealthy, I specifically ask for the top and bottom part of the char siew which are usually overcooked, but these dark crunchy part are hard to resist :P.

The chicken is ok, very soft and tender topped with a lot of dark soya sauce like. The char siew is fantastic, although it looks like a mixture of fats and meat, you can hardly tell the differences. Each bite is soft, full of sweet and yummy char siew taste and very tender. You just can’t tell the fats and meats. Really wonder what is the secret!

This fantastic meals cost RM18.90 for 2 person excluding drinks! A little steep but the food is good plus its KL. The trend seems to be when the food is good and the place is old, its expensive in KL ;)
