Its Friday night and we were wondering where to go for dinner… then Ed recommend to the gang to try Thong Kee which is having a promotion where from as little as RM35, you get 3 dishes plus 1 free soup. So 8 of us head there and selected the RM98 package which comes with 6 dishes and 1 free soup, rice and drinks however are chargable separately.

There’s 128 type of dishes to choose from… so we got assam style steam tapalia fish, mango fried talapia fish, salted fish steam pork, fried lotus roots, bittergound fried with roast pork and a ginger chicken.

The free soup is chicken feet old melon soup which is quite ok and the best part is that you can ask for free refills for the soup which is a really good deal. The assam steam fish and fried mango fish is ok, in fact the mango fish is big in size, good value. The bittergound roast pork is a bit oily to me and the ginger chicken is just normal la.

The dish I like most is the fried lotus roots which is done in a salted pepper style but the portion is small. The salted fish steam pork is quite good too!

Overall the food here is not bad and provides a good value but… you have to make sure that you don’t order drinks… just drink soup? The Chinese tea cost RM1.50 per head, so we end up topping RM12 for that, RM1.50 for ice (very expensive for ice!), RM2.00 for peanuts and RM9.60 for rice. So do budget for the extras when you choose your package ;) .

Essence of chicken helps to revitalise our body especially when we are weak and feeling fatigue. In most instant nowadays, we go for bottled essence of chicken but it is actually not difficult to make your own at home which according to my mum… this is the real thing, outside one no use one! :)

Anyway, if you want to try the real thing… here’s a simple recipe to it.

1. Get yourself a steaming pot with cover for the job

2. Get half a kampung chicken, skinned and trimmed of fats, then smash it all up

IMAGE_443

3. Put chicken into the holder in the steaming pot and add herbs of your choice. Chicken is the key, herbs are complimentary but suggest red dates at the bottom of the holder and “kei chi” (wolfberries) with the chicken. You can also add other herbs like “pau sum”, etc. Add just 2-3 tablespoon of water to the chicken (yup, that’s it, you want essence of chicken, not chicken soup)

4. Get a larger pot and place a cloth at the bottom and fill with water.

5. Place covered steaming pot in the larger pot and cover to boiled then go on the lowest heat for 2-3 hours.

6. The result, home made essence of chicken, drink everything up and do it constantly for weekly for a period of time until you all good and much stronger, its not magic potion, so 1 time will not help but over time.

Good luck!!!

I was driving to meeting one day and I heard this radio ad on KFC’s new Jom Jimat Everyday meal… RM5.90 for a KFC meal just like what everyone is doing nowadays. McDonalds seems to have a huge success with their RM5.95 meals that even my nephew in primary school knew about… then Subway, Starbucks, Burger King… everyone seems to have a budget meal but mostly time restricted.

Its interesting that KFC offer this the whole afternoon… so I dragged a few guys from the office to check it out… I ordered Set A which is RM5.90 before tax and RM6.20 after text. It comes with rice (colonel chicken rice as they named it, looks like cooked with chicken stock), coleslaw, one piece of chicken (original or spicy of your choice) plus 1 soft drink.

KFC being KFC the chicken is nice and going with the rice and coleslaw turns out to be ok plus a Pepsi at the end to really fill you up if you didn’t have enough. Its was quite ok and by far, this is the cheapest KFC I had in years.

I still prefer conventional chicken rice but once in a while when you have that KFC itch and don’t want to spend a lot, this could be your solution :) .
