We were on our way to Pangkor for our very first batang trip and decided to stop by Kg Cina in Sitiawan for lunch before going over (that’s after having like 2 rounds of breakfast at the market and Jing Kee).

I didn’t even know that Ah Pek Lee had been interviewed by Axian until the boss told us that we should try his steam stingray and even Axian liked it. Anyway, when you are here, you should be able to see the full video of the interview running ;) .

We got down to business and order my favourite here, Lala Mee Hoon which is not the same as the Teluk Gong style but its soup based with local lala (thicker shells) and thick meehoon. The soup is milky but tasty and the lala is just fantastic.

Next up is KC’s favourite sar jiu fish which are powdered with spices before deep frying. Simply take it with the local Kg Koh chili sauce and its excellent. The chili sauce was also great taken with some cripsy oo chien (fried oysters) we order but I personally prefered their hot plate oysters omelette.

We also had a dry curry crab, again local style which is basically the most expensive dish costing us RM60 plus. As usual we couldn’t miss out ordering some greens to balance up the diet.

The most interesting thing we had here are some steam sotong. Everytime my dad come to Sitiawan, he will ask for steam sotong and most of the time they don’t have it. You see, the sotong need to be very fresh in order for you to be able to cook them through steaming otherwise its really not nice.

The sotong are simply steamed with what tasted like cooking wine, sesame oil and some soya sauce with chinese parsley on top. The result, its the best sotong I have ever tasted! If you ever have a chance to try, please try it!

The boss here goes to sea on his own to get his catch for the restaurant, so freshness is assured! Most of my visits here I will also see small time fisherman coming on motorbike to sell small catch to him as well.

Overall it cost us RM160 plus for 10 pax and I think that’s reasonable pricing. This place is getting popular and can get quite popular nowadays, there’s even a tour bus that stopped here for a big tour group to dine!

Coconut Flower in Teluk Gong used to be one of my number one favourite seafood place to go many years back because of the good food and cheap prices… over the years price have slowly gone up and was getting too crowded to go…

In recent years after settling down in Shah Alam, KC seems to like to go there and much often he would dragged me along with his happy family for lunch there on weekends. Weekend lunch time crowd seems to be managable, I am not sure if its still crowded at night.

Anyhow, one fine Saturday afternoon, a bunch of itchy backside gang decided to go to Teluk Gong for seafood… there are like 10+2 of us… we ordered my all time favourite “kum heong har kao” (dry chili mantis prawns), xo sauce fried crabs (1kg), sweet & sour crabs (1kg), fried buns for the crabs, “seong tong lala” (clams), “lala meehoon” (clams fried vermicelli), “oo chen” (oysters omelette), teow chew steam fish, some vegetables and of course some “yeh fah chew” (coconut wine) and a bottle of stout as mixer.

The appetizer was interesting, instead of the common peanuts, they gave this mamee like fried dry noodles which is quite nice. The har kao is good as usual with the lala meehoon, xo crabs is very nice and fried buns with crab sauce is cool too.

The food standard is still ok here but prices are still not as good as what it used to be. Bill came up to about 20 plus per person but it still an attractive weekend place for a lazy seafood outing plus you always get free dessert at the end ;) .

We were having a bbq and I head over to Piau Kee to grab some seafood. We went to the Puchong branch, they are also located in SS2 and Cheras.

They offer a varieties of live mud crabs… I am not sure about the crab sizing but I got the XL (looks like M to me) as they have ran out of XXL… it cost RM33.00 per kg, I applied for their membership card I got 10% discount on the spot, pretty neat ;) . I took 8 of them which comes up to 3.17kg, total RM 94.09, I will say that is not bad for it size. We had to let it breathe and brought it up the office to keep it alive till bbq time, thanks to KC for taking care of them… hehehe…

The other seafood stuff here are all hard frozen but surprisingly they are still very good and fresh when it was unfrozen to cook. We got some white prawns here, they have various sizes. The bigger one have about 16-20 pcs at RM38.00 (on promo) and 40-50 pcs per pack at RM24.00.

They also have some nice mussels and scallops from New Zealand which goes for RM19.80 per pack for scallops and RM9.90 for mussels. The mussels is ok but the scallop is a bit small in size. They also sell various kind of sauces and other ingredients you need to cook seafood here.

I would say this is a decent, clean and easy way for city folks to do seafood shopping. Now that I got a membership card, guess I will be back for more :)
