The good thing about making this dessert is that it is really simple to make. The only real hard work is peeling and cleaning up the sea coconut. This dessert is cooling and smoothing effect for the throat as well and I love this as it is not only delicious but full of stuff to bite as well ;) .

To cook this, you will need the below:

1. Sea Coconut (1 packet for a mid pot, usually you can get from wet market or pasar malam)
2. Longan (about 3/4 small bowl)
4. Preserved dates (1 packet for me or depending how sweet you want it)
3. Loh han gou (2 will do)

The first task is to clean, peel and slice the sea coconut. Use a tablespoon to help you scoop the sea coconut’s skin out. The softer and ripen fruit will be easier, as a simple scoop will do while the harder one will require quite a bit of cleaning as the skin breaks off easily.

Once you have the sea coconut peeled and sliced, in mid size pot, fill it up with 3/4 water (leaving some room for the ingredents above). Bring the water to boil and drop in the sea coconut, longan and preserved dates. The preserved dates replaces rock sugar as it is sweet enough. Break open the loh han gou and tear the flesh up, if the flesh is still a bit moist, then its good stuff and put the flesh plus shell into the pot.

Once the water start boiling again with all the above, turn it to the lowest heat and let it boil for at least 45 mins and you are good to go. Taste the dessert to make sure all the flavours are out and if it is too sweat, add a little boiled water or otherwise add some rock sugar to your liking ;) .

Remove the loh han gou and dates from the dessert and chill it in the fridge before serving! Simple!

The good thing about visiting Digital Mall in Section 14 besides being able to boost the economy is also being able to visit the Medan Selera located behind it in the Section 14 Wet Market.

There are 2 levels to the food court and I usually visit the lower one. The Siam Laksa here is very good and unique but what caught my eye on my last visit is their Fried Pan Mee. There are quite a few places selling this and one of them is a shop specialized in various cooking style with Pan Mee in Kota Kemuning.

Anyway, the Fried Pan Mee is done as hokkien mee style… so its technically a Hokkien Fried Pan Mee at RM4.00. The pan mee is very thin and doesn’t look like pan mee at all at first glance. Its the usual hokkien mee fare with prawns and cabbage and a nice big spoon of sambal chili to go with it.

To cool things off… the drinks stall here offer a vast varities from coconut juice, sugar cane, juices and dessert as well. I had a bowl of leng chee kang at RM1.80.

The food choice here is good and reasonably priced for PJ standard ;) .

I had always been wanting to visit Jalan Sayur in Pudu to check out the food street there… finally on a Sunday afternoon, I had hours to kill and while driving out for tea, I decided to head to Jalan Sayur. Parking on Sunday was ok, I parked at Jalan Pasar and cut through the alleys to Jalan Sayur.

It’s basically a hidden street in between shophouses in Pudu converted into a food street with stalls offering all sorts of varieties with tables and stools all along the street. From what I observed, this place is mainly serving the local market as their main customer as it is the usual KL street hawker kind of environment, not many tourists may be able to take it but for people like me, its perfect!

Some of the offering I noticed here are things like chee cheong fun (quite popular from the crowd), homemade pau, porridge, all sort of noodles and my main objective, fried chicken! You will notice this small stall with crowd around it waiting for take aways. Winner’s Fried Chicken offers fried chicken drumstick RM2.40, wings RM2.00, L shaped drumstick RM 3.80, etc.

Although I am just looking for a snack, I took the L shape drumstick plus a pack of gizzards for RM4.80 and then headed for the tong shui stall for a big bowl (noodles size bowl) of leng chee kang at RM2.80.

There’s definately a huge varieties of food here and this place provides a very good local feel as well, worth checking out for a good street food feast!
