Sam You is a very well known place by PJ folks for good food plus good price. So don’t be surprise if you can’t get a table if you don’t do your booking but there are some tables outside the restaurant you can sit too if you don’t want to wait.

The service here is fast, efficient and helpful too. I reserved a table for 8 of us to celebrate my mum’s birthday last weekend.

Seafood Pot

Stir fried fish fillet

We were offered a promotion of seafood pot at RM25 only and “chak sing pan” (seven stars grouper) fish at only RM7 per 100g.. that’s quite ok for an aircond restaurant. We went for the seafood pot but took stir fried fish fillet instead of the whole fish.

Stir fried asparagus

Pork Ribs

The other goodies we ordered are their self made tofu (with soy milk) with are braised with fishballs, stir fried asparagus and pork ribs.

Overall the food is good but I find the ribs a little too sweet and the fish fillet a little too salty. Most of the stuff are valued for money but the ribs cost a bit more. The bill came to Rm130++ for 8 of us, not too bad at least service is fast and good here and that’s a reason why there’s always such a large crowd here.

So if you plan to visit Sam You, make sure you reserve a table ;) .

I think the last time I had fish and chips last like last year July when I was at Fremantle having Cicerello’s – WA’s No. 1 Fish ‘n Chips!

I didn’t had much of thought about Fish & Co. because the appearance of the place really did not attract me at all but Miharu was in the mood for some fish and chips and so we ended up here.

We ordered the fried calamari as starters, that set us back by RM10.90 but it was really good. Calamari are thinly siliced and deep fried with coating of batter and herbs. The calamari goes great with the chili sauce provided.

Fried calamari

Fish & chips

Next up are some traditional fish and chips for me, RM9.90. Its a decent piece of deep fried fish, crispy from the outside but flaky soft from the inside. Its a little oily to me but the fries that goes with it are good. I asked for some vinegar to go with it but unfortunately the vinegar served here are really those you get at Cicerello’s, its just too strong.

Miharu had the New York fish and chips which is stuffed with cheese and its a little cheesy but better fragrant and rich at RM10.90.

Overall, the food here is good, service not too bad but would just been great if they had good and light vinegar for the fish ;) .

This 1 night trip to Melaka, I had like 3 bowls of hee kiaw mee! I am starting to think that I am becoming a Hee Kiaw Mee addict. Miharu and family got the puzzled look on their face, why this fatty like hee kiaw mee so much, to them, its just very ordinary food, hehe…

Firstly, for those not familar, hee kiaw mee is actually noodles, can be ordered soup or dry with fish cake, fish balls and char siew. Most of the time, there’s also additional toppings like meatballs, stuffed tofu, etc. you can add on. The noodles varies from stalls, it can be the normal yellow noodles, meehoon, koay teow and something wantan mee type. The fish cake is different, not the usual fried type but just steamed fish cake that comes in white and orange colour. Fish ball and char siew are standard. Oh… there’s also taugeh being served together.

I preferred the soup based one but only at this one stall that operates at night at Jalan Tun Sri Lanang. The soup is slightly salted but very tasted and I like the fact there are so many types of topping you can add, hehe… greedy me as usual :P

The dry one is quite nice too, my favourite is with koay teow and yellow noodles and oohhh… today I discovered that you have to ask for chili to be added to the dry one if you want so, it feels like something is missing with the chili sauce in the dry noodles :) .

Well, this time I had my first bowl during dinner at Newton food court but sorry to say this but it was really not up to my expectation. I would actually rate it as just normal ching tong soup noodles. So, Miharu then convinced everyone that I should go for another bowl and we end up da bao-ing at Jalan Tun Sri Lanang… hehe… well, no regrets and I love it… see the photo, how I walloped clean clean

Jln Tun Sri Lanang Heh Kiew Mee

How much I love Heh Kiew Mee

Then today, not sure what to eat, I end up eating hee kiaw mee again for lunch at Bukit Beruang… haha… so in conclusion, I think internally, I am slowly becoming a hee kiaw mee addict ;) .

Eat first, think later… hmm.. maybe the next addiction will be char siew fan… thinking about it.. time to sleep, sweet dreams :D
