Before returning to KL, I went to Perling for breakfast at Queen Park Coffeeshop which is a 2 shoplot kopitiam. I ordered their southern style wantan mee… which is kind of small, wantan noodles cooked then topped with clear gravvy and chili sauce, no black sauce then served with a few pieces of char siew and chops of spring onions, that’s it. It’s RM3.50 a bowl but I think I need 1 1/2 bowl for myself.. hehe… but its really good and I like it with the chili sauce which is optional.

The coffeshop also sells nasi lemak, the rice brings out a strong aroma from the banana leave use, quite nice but the sambal and boiled egg topping is so so aja la… maybe I am used to the Perak style hehe…

I also tried their nyonya bak chang here and its great! Big in size and generous amount of fillings for RM3.40 each, so good that I can’t resist back some back for the family ;).

Like most out of KL places… people here take rice for breakfast, the mix rice counter here offering a lot of good looking dishes and there is also a loh ark (braised duck) stall that I saw a lot of people waiting for take away. There is just so much to eat here but this is quite a good place to stop for breakfast, especially like their bak chang (dumpling)!

Johor – Stulang Laut Mee Rebus @ Restoran Enam Puluhan

I was back in Johor again and back to Stulang Laut for their famous mee rebus… however this time the mee rebus place below the Wawasan Open Uni was closed… so we went to the other one nearby… not sure if its the same… the restaurant name is Restoran Enam Puluhan.

The place is quite crowded and much cleaner and better atmosphere.. and I think the mee rebus is a lot better than the other place.. the gravvy is thick with a lot of cruncy topping on top, very nice. Its the usual stuff in it, green chilies, boiled eggs, taugeh, etc.

They also serve grilled otak-otak and all sort of Indonesian food here like ayam penyet and so on, didn’t have stomach to try that… was already too full!

Johor-Batam Ferry from Zon

During my last trip to Batam, I traveled to Singapore before heading to Batam on ferry from there since AirAsia had stopped flights from KL to Batam (pity). This trip however, we are going from Johor. There are ferry services from Zon in Stulang Laut, Johor Bahru directly to Batam Center in Batam. The ferry schedule are available here.

We parked at the indoor multi-level carpark in Zon, it cost about RM45 for 3 days 2 nights of parking which is not bad and quite safe we got our car back in 1 piece ;). From the carpark, we need to cut across level 2 of the shopping complex to the ferry terminal, signboards in the complex are helpful, its about 5-10 minutes walk (with all the stuff we had to carry).

At the ferry terminal, we went to the counter for tickets. You are required to hand in your passport for them to manually key in your details to get a printed ticket out and this process really takes time! We were quite worry we gonna miss the 2.30pm ferry, after 20-30 mins waiting, we got our passport back with the ticket. The return ticket cost RM120.00 inclusive of seaport tax.

The immigration and custom is quite fast and the ferry usually departs late as we made in no sweat after 2.30pm to get on board the ferry. Depending on the different timing will be different ferry as its operated by 3 different companies.

The ferry ride was a choppy as it was raining and it took 1 1/2 hours. Ferry is aircond with blurry TV as the only source of entertainment.

When returning from Batam, you are required to pay Rp.110,000.00 tax again… so make sure you keep so rupiah for the return trip. You have to go to level 1 of batam center to your return ticket confirm as its an open ticket.
