Con’t from part 3…

We managed to catch up with the Chung family at Ayer Hitam toll where we group up and head to Zenxin Organic Park in Kluang. Its just located just 5-10 minutes from the toll and its a huge place with plenty of parking. The park is opened to visitors and you are able to see for yourself how fruits and vegetables are plants and you can actually rent a bicycle to go around it. I would think its a good educational tour for kids but all of us grown up kids seems to enjoy it too :P.

We got our bicycle, for 2 hours it only cost RM5, you can bring your own bike too but too much hassle I would think… the bikes here are ok, they are all Lerun’s Mendova… a simple rigid frame MTB, good enough for this park ride but somehow, mine the chain keeps coming of 3-4 times. So I had to go back halfway to change to another bike :(.

We hit off the park to the pond side, where there are a lot of vegetables growing… we got into 1 of the pumpkin garden and started taking funny photos with pumpkin growing on top of our head. Then we cycled around the pond and Sor J got conned (actually willingly) into taking a photo with a brinjal and hence, the legend of his blue black b*** emerged :P. Later, we move up hill to the dragon fruits orchard and a hill top observation tower.

After an hour plus, we are really tired, returned our bikes and try out some of the organic dragon fruits beverages at the cafe. The dragon fruits juice is quite tasteless like the dragon fruit, so its the combination of other juices that you mixed that makes the difference. Anyway, food queue is long here and so we head on to Kluang for lunch and most of us is excited about visiting the original Kluang Railway Coffee Station!

We got to Kluang town in a short while and headed to the railway station and guess what… its closed! Arghh… so sad.. all the way from KL and its closed 🙁 sob… anyhow, so we are hungry in an unfamilar town feeling dissapointed, so Ed, Calvin Chung and myself took out our GPS and hunt for makan place nearby. We ended up at Chop Foo Chow at Jalan Duku… its a dim sum place and I wanted to try foo chow pau.

Chop Foo Chow is a nicely renovated corner shop, interior is nice, besides dim sum, I saw people having steamboat there too. But as usual, we didn’t want to eat too much to save some tummy space to try out the beef noodles at Restoran Sup Lembu Tong Jiat just across the road.

Dim Sum here was ok, the usual but they have some different types with yam, meat floss, etc. The foo chow pau are actually the usual round shape pau with tai pau type of filling inside, comes in big and small size. The big one is RM3.00, small one is RM1.20 each… cost of living in Johor quite high leh…

On the opposite, we went to Restoran Sup Lembu Tong Jiat for some beef noodles. The beef noodles here comes in size of small RM4.50, medium RM5.50 and big RM6.50. The small one is really smaller than average, so the medium size on is considered as regular. The beef noodles choices here includes the usual mee, meehoon, koay teow or lai fun (used in assam laksa type) and only soup based, no dried version. Calvin and Ed got their noodles first, and they were wondering how come besides chili sauce, there’s a bottle of vinegar on the table, so they happily conned me and Sor J that the vinegar is to dip beef like a sauce. So when I got my noodles, I happily try it and its was sour like crazy, then Sor J suggest that maybe its for you to add the vinegar to the chili sauce and I saw this uncle a few tables away doing just that!

Anyhow, the beef noodles are really good, although costly but you get a lot of beef parts in the bowl and great thing about this noodles are the soup. Unlike the normal beef noodles I had tried, the soup here are light and clear looking. The soup is still very tasty and not oily and its full of herbal and beef flavour but leave a scent of sweetness in your mouth after drinking it. I would rate this beef noodles very good for the soup alone, made my trip to Kluang worth it all!

They also sell beef jerkies and floss here, going from RM12 to RM15 depending on packaging and types. Before leaving, I checked out their namecard, looks like its also known as the Tangkak beef noodles and they have branch in Melaka and KL too :).

Con’t part 2…

The next day, we all head and meet up at Siang Chiang coffeshop with Sky talked highly about for breakfast. On the way there, my truck it hits 100,000 mileage… that is just in 2 years and 10 months time, that proved I have really been traveling around Malaysia like crazy!

We got to Siang Chiang and something hits me… its Melaka, you need to pay parking even if its a weekend but not sure do I need to pay on public holiday… heck to be on the save side, I bought a book for 5 X hourly tickets at RM3.00 and used one of it.

Siang Chiang is a busy place for breakfast, lucky for us a table is just about to leave as we walked in and Sky quickly alerted us to grab it, grab it, grab it quick he said… hehehe… kan cheong betul. So, we settled ourselves, got nice Malaccan coffee to help us stay alert for the day and how can you not have toast and half boiled eggs. Then I saw the bak chang (dumplings) and couldn’t resist, so we got a normal bak chang and a Nyonya bak chang to try. I really like the nyonya bak chang, its a little sweet but very tasty and you almost can’t stop eating it.

Sky ordered a must eat for us… it the mee suah from 1 of the stall in Siang Chiang. The wait is long, so the moment we sat, he had already placed the order. Our mee suah is extra everything size, which surprised the aunties next table whom asked if we order normal, cause their mee suah seems smaller than ours, hehe. Its cost RM5.00 per plate but its worth every single cent of it.

The mee suah we ordered are dried with dark sauce topped with 5-6 mid size prawns, vegetables, char siew (bbq pork), fried dried anchovies and shredded chicken. The whole plate was just huge and prawns keep poping up as you eat your noodles away, mee suah itself is good and topping are heavenly!

I can instantly feel weight gain coming on that morning with all the good food in Melaka in just 1 night! Anyhow, after that its was time to head out and our next destination is Kluang in Johor where we will be meeting the Chung family.

Con’t from part 1…

After visiting the riverside, we head on for wantan mee and got here slightly after 8pm, parking was a bit tough here. The wantan mee stall is located in a food court along Jalan Temenggong. When we got there, tables are filled up and not of them are eating… then I was told the wantan mee stall are still preparing for business and won’t be ready until 8.45pm and those people are all there waiting for it to start serving!

Since our stomach are making a lot of noise, we decided not to wait and head on for crabs. So we got back to our wheels and moved on to Lu Yeh Yen for crabs at Jalan Bunga Raya. As we are heading to Lu Yeh Yen from my truck, we decided to buy some yau char kwai at the famous stall outside Restoran Mei Sin. Its 50 cents per piece but I was told price have increased and the size have been reduced a lot. But the crowd is still there, no doubt the yau char kwai are really good and crispy.

Lu Yeh Yen is a crab place next to a temple and it’s actually extend partially into the temple’s compound for outdoor seating area. Our first impression was… ermm… can eat crabs in temple one meh? Sky explains or maybe con, I am not sure, haha… that the temple are Taoism, that’s why is ok. Anyway Lu Yeh Yen seems to be a popular and well recognised place as you can see the various awards it showcase on its wall.

We didn’t want a full course meals, since we are reserving some supper space for wantan mee. So Sky ordered 1kg plus (3 small crabs) of chili crabs and another 1kg plus of salt baked crabs. We also ordered some ‘mantao’ (steamed buns) and ‘loh mai fan’ (gluotunous rice) to supplement the crabs since Ed is trying to avoid seafood because of his healing wounds, but heck, I keep telling him, you need poison to cure poison :P. Then suddenly no matter how good the crabs are, we just pretend it sucks for Ed sake.. hehehe.

Service was a bit slow here and we had to wait really long for the food to come. Lucky we got Sor J (ex-10.60, now new nick for him) to entertain us and he keeps going back to the yau char kwai stall to hassle the owner to fried yau char kwai for him and they reject his RM5 notes because its slightly torned.

When we got to a point that we are quite unset with the wait for the food, it finally arrived. The chili crabs was good, sauce is nice, not too salty nor spicy, just right but not worth the wait. Then the salt baked crabs come, then the wait becomes worth it. The crabs retains its sweet flavour inside while the exterior are covered lightly with salt and a slight bbq aroma, its really one of the best salt baked crabs most of us have tasted (yet we told Ed its not nice to make him feel better :P). The gluotunous rice is not bad too, doesn’t stick too much and tasted really good. Total damage is RM131.00, quite expensive but at least tasted really good. The small crabs here are RM40 per kg while the big one is RM50-52 per kg, can’t remember exactly but looks like its still cheaper to eat crabs in KL.

After filling ourselves up and quite tired from our day, we decided to quickly complete our last stop, back to the wantan mee at Bukit Cina. Parking was a hassle and by now, the food court are filled with people. You can now see the wantan mee stall in full swing action, the lady boss is busy scolding the workers, the husband is just making the noodles like nothing is happening and a lot of tables are waiting for the noodles. This I was told is a norm at this place. After a while chatting and laughing the night away, our food arrived. I got the dried wantan noodles with chili, I think this makes its special, the others looks normal. My dried chili wantan mee are spicy with siew yok (roast pork) and char siew (bbq pork) on top. We also have a bowl of braised chicken feets and mushrooms to share.

The noodles have less “kan sui” (an alkaline salt mixture) taste which are normally used to improve the texture of the noodles but doesn’t taste good! Besides that, I think the only thing that makes it different are the chili sauce on to the dry wantan noodles, which give it a little hint of spicy taste which I am quite fond of :). Chicken feets are braised really soft but not enough taste to me, maybe I am spoilt by my mum’s braised chicken feets :P.

After our yummy supper and a whole evening of good makan, we head back to Sky & Miharu’s place to bunk for the night. Unfortunately for me… I was being bugged by mosquitoes the whole night, keeping me awake, I wonder how come Sor J didn’t get much mozzies bites… I have a theory… maybe 1 mozzie went to bite Sor J and died instantly after sucking his blood.. then the rest decided to just live with high cholesterol than instant death and bite me instead? 😛
