Tien Soon had been telling me about this place for sometime and somehow everytime I am in Melaka and he is not and when is he in, I am not. But finally this weekend we are both here and he came over to picked me up for some coconut shake!

This place is located by the road side at the Klebang area and immediately you can spot it because it is super packed with people lining up by the road covered with red umbrellas.

We used our kiasu-power and managed to find ourselves a table almost immediately amid the large crowd and some RTM crews interviewing the place. There seems to be a system here, for those whom are dining in, you just need to get a place to sit and order. For those taking away, you have to queue and wait for your turn. So if you had it there and wanna buy back, you have to then go and queue at the line.

While waiting for our coconut shake special (with additional ice cream on top like a float), we tried some of their packed nasi lemak kukus. Its still warm and I must say its pretty good. The rice does not stick together and the sambal is great. Each packet cost RM1.20.

For the coconut shake special, it cost RM2.00 for having it there plus loads of patience as it took almost 20 mins for ours to arrived. The coconut shake is actually a blend of ice, coconut juice, coconut flesh, sugar plus loads of ice cream! The special comes with an extra scope of ice cream on top! The texture is smooth, you can still taste bits of coconut flesh, no wonder people are buying it by the loads at the queue.

This place opens at 12.30pm and closed at 6.30pm and I highly recommend this place especially on a hot sunny Melaka afternoon!

This place is packed and instantly you will notice a queue of people in line ordering or taking away nasi lemak. Parking is almost impossible here and so I had to wait in the car while Miharu jumped down to buy.

We bought 2 packets, 1 with chicken and the other with sotong (yau yi). In the packet, you get the rice with a standard serving of cucumber, kangkung, peanuts and anchovies topped with Miharu’s selection of fried egg and fried chicken for one and sotong with fried egg again for another. Both packets cost RM 7.50.

The rice is not sticky and each rice its on its own, what is nice is the rice is not too overhelmed with santan, so you don’t get bloated after eating. The sambal is sort of watery but its good to go with the nasi lemak, now I known why its so popular plus affordable pricing too.

Affordable Meals @ LCCT

I hate to go to the airport early, not sure about you guys, especially KLIA’s low cost hub, the LCCT Terminal. First of all, its always crowded, queues are always long and when you are done checking in, the makan place are always packed. McDonalds are packed, not cheap to eat, and if you go to the opposite Asian food place, noodles and all aren’t cheap either and I consider it expensive. Coffee bean, well, what is there to eat anyway? Only have overpriced coffee :P.

Well, during my last trip to Indonesia, I found out that the Food Garden, which is the building outside the LCCT terminal is not a bad place for meal. If you come out of the terminal, its just after the bus stop where all the bus to KL Sentral are parked.

This time, I was early to the airport and I decided to try out the food at the terminal, as expected, the food is not great, but its not that bad. I got a little greedy and went for the Nasi Lemak set, at RM5.50, I get the usual nasi lemak serving of rice with some sambal, cucumber, peanuts and fried anchovies plus a piece of fried chicken of my choice. The rice are warm (kept in rice cooker) but the chicken is cold though :(.

But how to complaint, at RM5.50 got nasi lemak plus big piece of chicken, I pay double if I go to McD! The food court is also offering their teh tarik (from the nescafe machine one) at RM1.00 per cup and I got a 500mil bottle of mineral water at RM0.80 (RM1.50 if you buy in the terminal)!

So I spent a total of RM7.30 for breakfast at LCCT for nasi lemak plus fried chicken with a cup of teh tarik and a bottle of mineral water, still cheaper than any McD meals and I am trying not to take fast food. So, its kind of affordable to eat here if you are stucked in LCCT, oh… if you want to save plain fried rice is RM2 ;).
