I was out in Taman Megah for lunch and we saw this new restaurant opened up next to Restoran Fu Kua that’s specialising in Roast Pork and the name of the place says it all Restoran Siew Yok!

This bright red sign board restaurant offers roast pork (siew yok) in a few varieties, they have the Yellow Gold which is the crispy version, Melting Gold which is less crispy but inside is softer and tender and the last is Black Gold which the skin is black in color as a result of a black vinegar being applied on it while roasting.

They also offers 3 types of char siew (bbq pork) which is the sweet (hint of chinese wine), sweet savoury (classic dark look) and spicy (tangy, sweet with a kick) variants. They also have a list of other special orders as well from big slap of roast pork to ribs, roast duck, goose, etc.

Both the siew yok ad char siew are offer at RM13.50 for a small plate, RM25.00 for medium and RM 35.00 for a big plate. I must say, pork is getting really expensive these days!

We ordered a large Trifecta (RM35.00) on the menu, which is a mixture of all the 3 types of siew yok offered and a small plate of the sweet char siew.

The yellow gold is crispy as promised, the melting gold is softer and black gold, can’t taste too much of the vinegar but quiet unique, overall its not bad but a bit costly in my opinion. The sweet char siew’s wine flavouring is a bit too strong but quite tasty.

Overall food is ok (its siew yok after all) but pricing is a bit on the high side on my opinion.

I went to Kokopelli Traveller’s Bistro with Miharu and gang… the place is just beautiful and neatly done. Its a house opposite Jaya 3 Two Square.

The place is all white with a nice green garden theme. The food is good, western and local styles with a homely and comfortable settings.

My favourite here would be the lamb shank, tender and taste great, for drinks, I have to say their teh tarik (only on weekend) is excellent but don’t expect mamak price ok, its a restaurant.

I didn’t had to pay for dinner (thank you Miharu!) so no idea but I think not cheap at all la, especially after plus drinks and all. But its a great place for the atmosphere and the owner is really friendly ;)

Sam You is a very well known place by PJ folks for good food plus good price. So don’t be surprise if you can’t get a table if you don’t do your booking but there are some tables outside the restaurant you can sit too if you don’t want to wait.

The service here is fast, efficient and helpful too. I reserved a table for 8 of us to celebrate my mum’s birthday last weekend.

We were offered a promotion of seafood pot at RM25 only and “chak sing pan” (seven stars grouper) fish at only RM7 per 100g.. that’s quite ok for an aircond restaurant. We went for the seafood pot but took stir fried fish fillet instead of the whole fish.

The other goodies we ordered are their self made tofu (with soy milk) with are braised with fishballs, stir fried asparagus and pork ribs.

Overall the food is good but I find the ribs a little too sweet and the fish fillet a little too salty. Most of the stuff are valued for money but the ribs cost a bit more. The bill came to Rm130++ for 8 of us, not too bad at least service is fast and good here and that’s a reason why there’s always such a large crowd here.

So if you plan to visit Sam You, make sure you reserve a table ;) .
