Its Friday night and we were wondering where to go for dinner… then Ed recommend to the gang to try Thong Kee which is having a promotion where from as little as RM35, you get 3 dishes plus 1 free soup. So 8 of us head there and selected the RM98 package which comes with 6 dishes and 1 free soup, rice and drinks however are chargable separately.

There’s 128 type of dishes to choose from… so we got assam style steam tapalia fish, mango fried talapia fish, salted fish steam pork, fried lotus roots, bittergound fried with roast pork and a ginger chicken.

The free soup is chicken feet old melon soup which is quite ok and the best part is that you can ask for free refills for the soup which is a really good deal. The assam steam fish and fried mango fish is ok, in fact the mango fish is big in size, good value. The bittergound roast pork is a bit oily to me and the ginger chicken is just normal la.

The dish I like most is the fried lotus roots which is done in a salted pepper style but the portion is small. The salted fish steam pork is quite good too!

Overall the food here is not bad and provides a good value but… you have to make sure that you don’t order drinks… just drink soup? The Chinese tea cost RM1.50 per head, so we end up topping RM12 for that, RM1.50 for ice (very expensive for ice!), RM2.00 for peanuts and RM9.60 for rice. So do budget for the extras when you choose your package ;) .

I remember when I was a young kid when there are no such thing as hypermarket and only a handful of supermarket around, the main source of grocery as the local neighbour hood kedai runcit… one of the favourite things to buy at the kedai runcit are their chocolate wafer… which comes in big tin that you need to buy by the amount required.

Now, we get our biscuits from hypermarket, supermarket and even the pasar malam stalls starts to prepack biscuits and sell nowadays. However, here in Sg Way in SS9A PJ… just on the main street next to 7-11 lies Bee Kee… an old time shop that have now been replaced by 7-11. It still operates from the unit upstairs but I was told its not selling to the public, wholesale maybe but I am not sure.

However, on the staircase, Bee Kee is still selling biscuits to the local community by the tins. Simply pick the biscuits of your choice (pricing are marked on the tins) and amount you want and they will weight to your order. But of course, time have changed, even most of the biscuits in tins you buy there are the common supermarket brand like Julie, Khong Guan and etc.

I bought a packet of spiral ear biscuits at RM2 here, used to love this biscuits when I was a kid and it was really good to have it again bringing back my childhood memories ;) .

So if you are in the area, do checkout the staircase biscuits stall, the GPS waypoint is N3 05.136 E101 37.232.

I like the fried chicken at the chap fan stall here and the char koay teow is not bad also… its a bit smokey but its a typical new village kind of coffeeshop, only problem is parking but the food is good enough to keep us coming back :) .
